群馬県吾妻郡、ＪＲ岩島駅「姉山道祖神」
川原湯温泉からの帰路、八ツ場ダムに水没予定の川原湯温泉駅よりひとつ高崎寄り、ＪＲ吾妻線「岩島駅」で降りた。無人駅でコインロッカーもなく、旦那はキャスターバックを引いたまま散策するハメになった。ここはダム放水口の下流にあたり、殆どの商店が撤退して少々寂しい川原湯地域に比べ、国道沿いにコンビニや飲食店、物産販売店が並ぶ。
姉山は駅の北側に隣接する小高い丘だ。日本全国が猛暑を記録したこの日、登るかどうしようか迷ったが、道に迷っているうちに気が付いたら山を登りかけており、どうせなら登ってしまえ！ということでそのまま進むことになった。
↑普段は机の前に座りっぱなしで超運動不足の体で、こんな坂道をひたすた登る・・・。暑い。キャスターバックの負荷がかかる旦那は余計大変。それでも木陰に入ったり、沢の近くを通る時には一瞬ヒンヤリとした風も吹く。
それにしてもどこまで登ればいいのー？とかなりバテてきたところで、前を歩く旦那が「あったー」と叫んだ。もう少しで丘の頂上という道沿いの左側の土手にポツンと建っている。
「姉山（上）道祖神」宝暦12年（1762年）のもの。お互いの肩を抱き、手を取り合う仲の良さそうな双体道祖神。見つけた嬉しさとほのぼのとした姿で疲れも吹き飛ぶ。
さらに進んで頂上を過ぎ、下りの坂道に入るとパーっと視界が開けるカーブがある。そこにもうひとつ・・・
「姉山（下）道祖神」年代不詳。顔もわからないほど風化しているが、姉山（上）と同じく肩を抱き、手を取り合っているのだろう。この神様がおそらく数百年も見守り続けている景色とは・・・↓
すぐ下にはＪＲ吾妻線岩島駅。特急「草津」が通過中。
